I have 2 remarks to this:

1. Shooting desperation shots myself? well i'd consider this not shooting a good high percentage shot that is justifed by the situation - and by this I don't mean I have to be shooting bad. Some call it the Testosteroneous (spelling...) shot - whether showing off or trying something you can't execute effectively. I use to do this more and I still find myself doing this from time to time.

2. I would never shark my opponent. But I do something all the time that is in attempt to make my opponent make a bad decision. I try to leave them shots that are low percentage or scratch shots or just something that even if they make they will not have a good shot on the next ball (or even better yet temp them into taking a shot so that they will break out a cluster of mine). the opponent doesn't always take the bait but when it works you leave your opponent scratching their head and wondering why they just did what they did.

It's when we start playing out of our natural tempo and begin to hurry that we neglect to see what's on the table. Often we are so pleased with an opponent's miss and eager to shoot that we simply fire in the shot in front of us only to face an impossible situation afterwards. In a game situation it is imperative when arriving at the table to take the time needed to assess the entire layout. Where are the problem balls? Can I run out? If not do I play a safety now or do I run a few balls and use that perfectly situated five ball for a devastating safety several shots from now? What is possible

Check out the whole article and see if it helps you

WAlly

There are 34 replies, with the last one on 03/03/2010 at 6:33:02 PM by Foghorn
Quote:
Here is a word that will help you with your game and that is Vision. I was reading an article by Dr. Cue Tom Rossman that talked about how to improve your game and win record. Here is a quote from the article:

This is the site if you want to read the whole article

<a href="http://www.ozonebilliards.com/visonmarch2010.html?utm_source=bronto&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Click+Here+To+Read+Entire+Article&utm_content=SROCONSTRUCTIONCO@COMCAST.NET&utm_campaign=Newsletter+-+March+2010" target="_blank">http://www.ozonebilliards.com/visonmarch2010.html?utm_source=bronto&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Click+Here+To+Read+Entire+Article&utm_content=SROCONSTRUCTIONCO@COMCAST.NET&utm_campaign=Newsletter+-+March+2010

Playing with vision allows us to perform. The best way to develop and nurture vision is to visualize. Visualize what will happen before taking a shot. Practice visualizing pool and its various shots when you are not playing. Visualize yourself performing consistently and effectively. Visualize yourself performing magic on the table. Great players often turn the most dire situations around by replacing a fear of failure with a willingness to amaze.

Now I feel that he is talking about higher level players but it can also be for lower ranked players to. No matter what level you are you have to start some where and it requires vision. It is when the things that other higher ranked players have showed you and by practice and watching others play it finally clicks in. If can be just in looking at the table before you start to shoot to make sure that there is not a better option or calling for a time out to get wise instruction.

The idea is to open your mind to what others all ready know and figure a way to do it your self.

Wally

I have spent many hours with him and have help[ed him stop popping up after his shot. He also swings his arms to help make his shot while he pops up. This was something that he did not realize that he was doing.

As we worked together he has reduce the amount of times he does it and has tried to start watching his approach to the cue ball and staying down on his shot.
