Yes...as long as it is on a night that I already participate and is at Mr. Cues II. Mondays or Wednesdays would be wonderful as I am in limbo now with babysitting issues. My son's father has moved to Cumming and will no longer (at this point) honor the custody agreement currently in effect. We're trying to figure out what to do. Scotch doubles would be GREAT; as would a 9-ball Division on Mondays at Mr. Cues! Talk to us folks! It'd be a GOOD thing!!

John: It's been 2 or 3 years since I've participated in one, so I may leave out some of the details, but basically: a Scotch doubles team is made up of two (2) people whose combined handicaps cannot add up to more than 10. (you can have any combination; it doesn't have to EQUAL 10--it just can't go beyond 10. i.e.: handicap 2 + a handicap 7, a 4 + a 6, or two 2s, or 2 3s or two 4s, etc.) Any combination as long as it doesn't go over 10. The format is 8-ball and the number of games your team must win depends on the two teams' handicaps.(think of it like a singles race; for instance a 10 is one team vs. a 6, the other team; the race is shortened accordingly. Now here comes the clincher...during each game, you and your teammate alternate shots as long as you/ya'll continue pocketing balls. When one of you misses, it's the other teams' turn. Just like in singles, the match is over when one team reaches their required number of wins. Boy, this is harder than I thought for me to explain in a "short and sweet" format! Let's say that Joe Blow and Joe Schmoe are one team and Jack Daniels and Jim Beam are the other team. After lagging, Jack and Jim's team wins the break. Jack breaks and pockets a solid; his partner Jim must shoot the next shot and try to pocket a solid. If he is successful, the shot returns to Jack. They continue on this way until one of them misses. The next person to shoot would be one of their opponents. Play continues this way until someone wins. Basically, that's it...oh except that the players that make up the teams can be two men, two ladies, or one of each. (Unless it's a Jack & Jill league...then it would have to be a man and a woman). I hope this clears things up a little bit for you. Woody, Vicki or Anita P. probably will have a more succinct (shorter) answer for you, but maybe this will help until then! Give it some thought...I think you and your wife would enjoy it immensely! Talk to you soon!

Scotch doubles is usually played in the 8-ball format. (I believe that's the same format as is played in the doubles in Vegas too.) Contact Judi Verdin...she and Kim participated in last years' in Vegas...she'll be able to give you all the particulars!

Don't forget--we have 3 separate categories of Doubles:
Jack & Jill Doubles ( ) 9Ball Doubles (open which means genderless) Open 8Ball Doubles (self-explanatory)
we do have a tournament planned for each of these categories, see the calendar
the national rules should be available on the national website |

Speaking of Mondays at Mr Cues--Beginning with our Summer Session - we're going to be starting our first Double Jeopardy division outside of the Marietta area.
Double Jeopardy--if you're team #01 in , you're also team #01 in . It's like twin divisions.
The rosters do not have to be 100% identical (although most teams find they will have only one or two players different). If Team #01 plays team #02 in , then on the SAME NIGHT Team #01 will ALSO play team #02 in .
It's a great way to play both formats in the same night, and since the & schedules are identical, it's even easier to promote team unity and competitition.
With Double Jeopardy, EVERYBODY GETS TO PLAY ON LEAGUE NIGHT!! - Some people will play twice. Cool, isn't it?
The only parts of this type of set-up that spin independently are a) the weekly fees (each team owes full weekly fees) and b) the play-offs. Team #01 might be in the play-offs in based on points, and might not even get a wildcard in .
If you have any more questions about this, please ask either Anita. |

Aw jeez Anita! Just wave some crack in front of the addict why don'tcha'?!? Double jeopardy league? Awesome idea. I already shoot on 9 teams. I'm gonna have to resort to pb&j's and lighten up on what the cats eat if I keep this up!
Just kiddin', it is an awesome idea, I seriously do not know if I could handle another night and the extra fees. If it happens on w, th, or sun. when I am already there, maybe... |
