i just wanted everyone to be clear on what is going on at the pool room in duluth. john has sold his interest to his other partners and they ARE changing the business. they announced it tonight during (some other league). they are meeting with the architects now, then pulling permits, then construction will start. so, somewhere around a month maybe a little more. but after that it's a martini/tapas bar with maybe 6 to 13 tables for "upscale" entertainment. it will be called purple rain, for those of you who want to trek out to duluth for the same thing you can get everywhere else - unless you live in duluth. then i guess you now have a tapas restaraunt to call your own. so that's it from the owners mouth. not a rumor, not a guess that's what she announced to us all tonight.

I was there on Monday night and the waitstaff there is already donning the new uniforms which include an apron with the Purple Rain logo (another part of the uniforms are stiletto healed boots - but that's a different story). I'd love to move to Dave & Busters. It's much more entertaining with well kept tables and fun video games Otherwise those of us that are at the Pool Room because it's non-smoking are pretty SOL.
Cheers, Genie

i've been catching hell for saying i'd rather quit playing than play in a dave and buster's type place from my captains. the best way i can describe how i feel is this - the fact the pool room is a no smoking room is the bonus for me. it's not the reason i go there. i go there for the 9 foot brunswick gold crowns. i go there for the blue monster gold crown V that mark gregory built for that place. i go to find a game. in short i go because it's a pool hall. i don't feel bad for my foul language, my spitting dip spit into a cup, my occasional drink too many. playing in a place with video games, kids running around and the feeling i need to watch what i do and say because there are families around is not my idea of going to play pool. sure maybe for a night out once in a while with friends who are just goofing around maybe, but not for competition. there is a reason the junior leagues play there and not in the kinds of places i like to go. on the flip side, it's the same reason i don't want to play in a crap hole bar with bar boxes and the uber drunks. i spent way too much money on my cues and case to have to use it to defend myself because some drunk thinks i stole his quarters. nope. i'll stick to mr. cues, marietta billiard club and cues billiards. that is just this fat guys two cents.

I would agree with the mass quantities of kids floating around if we were playing on a Saturday. I went to Dave & Busters on Saturday to check it out and it was a sea of kids... back in the midway (video game area). There weren't kids in the front where the pool tables were. I also agree that it's not a pool hall but the tables are in nice condition. Unfortunately I moved to the Pool Room in Duluth from MBC because I needed a non-smoking pool hall. My husband is horribly allergic to smoke so when I would come home from playing league I'd need to strip down, start a load of laundry, jump in the shower, and he'd still be miserable for 12 hours. I was so excited to play in Duluth. Our water bill has gone down . It's been great and about the same distance from my house as MBC. He's even come with me a few times which has really been nice. He tolerates the few times I go play tournaments elsewhere. What's happening has really saddened me. I committed to my captain that I would play wherever through City Cup to support the team. But if it's a smoking pool hall I will need to find somewhere else after City's as much as I'll miss you guys. Or maybe we should just move to California...
See you tonight!
Cheers, Genie

i agree that it's sad. on azbilliards forums i have made that point more than clear. i just don't come on here that much to write. you and i have talked about your hubby and that is horrible. i feel so bad for him. i can relate as melba has a cat and everytime i spend the night at her place i am in misery until the middle of the next day. the pool room has been a huge part of my life since i moved here in 07 and most of the friends i have, i have because i met them there. it will be missed for sure. it's people like you who make playing in the apa fun. and our teams are playing each other tonight so you better watch out. i want revenge for that beating you gave me in 8ball oh wait i am evil i should have put this

Evil I'm not happy about the situation either but I was trying to offer other options to the 16 teams that play there that's how Dave and Buster came up as a possible place to continue playing. I'm willing to move with my divisions to any location in the Gwinnett area but there are not any other pool halls in that area that are non-smoking which I know teams want. If there is a place anyone knows of in that area that in non smoking then that would be another option. I feel they same way as you I have many fonds memories and have made several friends also that I will miss seeing on a weekly basis if it comes to that.

It's sad when we lose ANY location to play pool at with our teams. (I'll probably get yelled at for this, but ) I am looking for locations for you guys who were playing at the Pool Room. The problem is...there just aren't that many non-smoking venues that can handle the 16 teams. Anyone winning the lottery this week, please contact me! Lots of opportunity in Duluth and this area! Heck, I live 2 1/2 miles from Pool Room and it's sad to see them go. (I have a pair of stiletto boots too! I could fit right in! HA!) Sorry, but pool halls and smoking go hand-in-hand...I'm sorry about the allergies...my son has a cat that drives me banannas! But, I still have the cat after 7 years.b I don't know what the answer is...but I want to extend my appreciation to everyone who plays on the league...whether you're at Mr. Cues II or not. You guys are awesome and I'm impressed that you come back year after year. I'll keep working on it...stilettos or not!
Anita Cravens Division Manager, Mr. Cues II
P.S.: Stay tuned for our up-coming promotions and incentives. (Remember the enclosed machines that have cash blowing around in them for the person to catch?!) Stay tuned. |

Thanks Anita. Any luck finding a non-smoking venue for a league? At this point I don't care how far I need to drive. Last night at Mr Cues was the worst I've ever felt. I don't ever want to feel like I can't catch my breath again. If I have to play there again, I'll need to wear a full mask (not just the silly one I was wearing last night).
Thanks, Genie
